Supermarket chain Asda is to offer up to 6,000 private flu vaccinations free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, in what it describes as a bid to help customers “get winter-ready”.

The company said patients who book a flu jab appointment through its online booking system and are vaccinated at one of its 242 pharmacies on September 14 will be exempt from paying the usual £14.97 fee. The offer only applies to vacccine consultations carried out on that date.

Asda said the move is aimed at protecting adults who are not eligible for free NHS flu vaccinations, citing NHS England data showing that in early December 2025 an average of 2,660 patients a day were in hospital with influenza – the highest rate ever recorded for that time of year.

Richard Harrison, pharmacy healthcare services manager at Asda, commented: "Our free flu jab service is about removing barriers and making it easier than ever for people to protect themselves and those around them. We're proud to be able to help people access flu vaccinations more easily, giving them one less thing to worry about as we head into the colder months. 

"We're expecting strong demand, so we'd encourage anyone interested to book their appointment now. By offering up to 6,000 free vaccinations in a single day, we're helping more people access convenient healthcare in their local community. But don’t worry, for those who miss out on the opportunity we still have great value all year round on vaccinations."
